HAVE AN EMERGENCY?  NEED AN INTERPRETER RIGHT AWAY?

CALL 911

LBD has a 24/7 special pager number only for emergencies.  The emergency number is (260) 481-8153.  The police, fire, and local hospitals have access to this number!  In an emergency, give the number to emergency personnel.  Ordering pizza is not an emergency. The number will be listed on new business cards.

Click on the "Interpreter Info" link above and you'll find a list of free-lance interpreters.  WARNING:  You may end up having to pay for the interpreting - depending on the situation.  DeafLink is NOT responsible if you choose an interpreter from this list and DO NOT go through DeafLink, and this interpreter does not show up for your appointment!
Below is a list of free-lance interpreters.  You are encouraged to call them, but these interpreters will have to be paid for their services.  You will have to figure out how to do that when you contact them.

NOTE:  DO NOT USE INTERPRETERS FOR CASE-MANAGEMENT.  They are to be used for interpreting only.  If you have a problem with a specific interpreter, please contact Garth Sponseller at LBD/DeafLink.

ARE YOU A DEAF OR HARD-OF-HEARING PARENT THAT IS IN NEED OF AN INTERPRETER FOR YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL?  DO YOU REQUIRE AN INTERPRETER TO MEET WITH YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER OR ATTEND MEETINGS?

If your child attends an Allen County school system, you are NOT required to use an interpreter the school has.  You have the RIGHT to have the school call DeafLink and have an interpreter of YOUR CHOICE when meeting with your child's school. Schools are NOT required to give you what you want.  If you have questions, please contact the Department of Education below:

VOLUNTEER INTERPRETER NEEDED

A volunteer who is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) is needed to chat with a deaf resident at Sanctuary at St. Paul’s, which is located 1/2 mile north of Ireland Rd., on Ironwood Drive.  These visits would keep this individual mentally sharp and give him a social connection.  He is an elderly gentleman who has been profoundly hearing impaired since he was a child.  He had been educated at Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) in Indianapolis.  He is a very pleasant person who enjoys playing pool.  If you are interested in being this volunteer, please contact Amy Thomas at 574-299-2198

NEED AN INTERPRETER?

Listed below are some free-lance interpreters that are offering their services.  PLEASE be respectful of the fact that these interpreters DO have other lives, they ARE busy, but they have a kind heart and are willing to help you out in a pinch.

Any other interpreters willing to put their info here -- please contact the editor.

NOTE:  DeafLink is NOT responsible if you choose to use these interpreters and they don't show up for your appointment.  You can still complain to DeafLink if the interpreter does not show up, but there may not be anything DeafLink can do to help you.
