‘Lend Me Your Ears' 2-mile walk

HearCare Connection, a local non-profit organization, is offering the public a chance to experience what it is like to have hearing loss during its SILENT CHALLENGE, its first major fundraiser on May 18-19, 2012.

This will be a hearing-loss prevention awareness day, with a mass production of ear plugs all over the city to encourage people to wear the plugs for ONE HOUR or THE WHOLE DAY to understand what a mild hearing loss is like, so they can be 1) more apt to protect their own hearing, and 2) more understanding and supportive of those with hearing loss,.

May 19 is HearCare's first annual 2-mile walk for hearing loss awareness, called, ‘Lend Me Your Ears.’  It will be at Lawton Park, with registration for walkers being $10, which includes a T-shirt and umbrella.  Children walk free with a paid adult.  It'll be a family fair with food, games, activities and music.  For more info, call Angelina Boungou at (260) 969 4455

Deaf Soccer Team!

First off, let me introduce myself.  I'm Trevor Holtgrave and have been a resident of Fort Wayne for the last 10 years.  I'm an avid footballer (soccer player) and have been part of the USA Deaf Men's national soccer team since 2002.  I'm proud to say, that I have helped lead the team into making USA Deaf soccer history through the years... with a championship in the 2003 Belgium tournament, a 4th place finish in the 2008 Deaf World Cup, and an upset over the #1 ranked team in the world (Great Britian) which culminated with an 8th place finish in the 2009 Deaflympics.  We have such high hopes going forward and hope to one day finish on top of the world.

I wanted to let you know that the USA Deaf Men's and Women's soccer team will be attending a training camp in Columbus, Ohio on the last weekend of April.  The purpose of this camp is to help prepare the team for the 2012 Deaf World Cup in Ankara, Turkey this July.  I would like to extend the invite to you to come out and support the Deaf team as both the Men and Women's team will play an exhibition on April 28th.  The details for the games are found in the following links:

If you have any questions, concerns, and/or comments, please feel free to email me.
